Orthodox, Catholic bishops team up to back crucifix bid
The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) and the Catholic Church in Serbia backed efforts in Italy to reinstate the crucifix in schools. The dignitaries of the two churches said they “defend the right to displaying religious symbols in the states that have majority of Christian citizens and at the same time honor minorities’ freedom of religion”.
Foursquare Banks $20M to Fuel Location-based Service
Foursquare June 29 said it raised $20 million in funding from Union Square Ventures, O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz. The money will be used to help the location-based Web service hire more engineers and build out infrastructure to expand its appeal beyond today’s 1.8 million users. Foursquare, along with Google, Twitter, Gowalla, Brightkite, Loopt and others, is seriously investing in location-based services to stimulate more interaction among users. EVERY year the Banker magazine publishes a ranking of the world’s banks by profits, assets, losses and the like. The latest ranking confirms a shift in power towards banks based in emerging markets. Three Chinese banks make it on to the list of the 20 biggest banks. Agricultural Bank of China, which is about to embark on the world’s biggest IPO, does not quite make the cut. Among the big losers of 2009, European banks, which bought so much toxic securitised sludge, are well represented. The two most profitable banks were Chinese, though what might be hiding on their balance-sheets is anyone’s guess.

Year-on-year inflation under 4 pct
The current rise in retail prices confirms the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) forecast that year-on-year inflation will stay under four percent in June.
This is according to a statement from the central bank issued in Belgrade this Wednesday which also adds that inflation was below the lower limit of the allowed deviation from the target.
