AMD beats Intel

By admin • Jan 20th, 2008 • Category: IT, Markets

AMD beats IntelA test from an independent claimed that quad core AMD Opterons use up to 41 per cent less power than similarly configured Xeon servers.

Neal Nelson’s Benchmark Laboratory kitted up test servers using 4GB, 8GB and 16GB memory sizes.

The tests seem to show that FB-DIMMs consume more power than DDR-II modules on the AMD servers. They use Nelson’s own Power Efficiency Benchmark, which he said is a client server test with 500 web users from 32 separate computers feed transactions to a server running Apache 2, MySQL database, and the SuSE Linux Enterprise OS.

The tests aren’t sponsored by external firms, Nelson said. He added: “I am certain that these test results are correct. I am so certain that I have begun to offer my customers a money back guarantee if their real world experiences do not agree with my benchmark data.”
