Finally ready to sing your heart out in front of the American Idol judges? Forget waiting for hours in a packed stadium. Now you can eliminate the waiting time and upload your audition to MySpace instead. Inspired by the bevy of new artists hitting the charts thanks to success of viral videos, Idol producers have partnered with the team at the social networking site to give hopefuls across the country the opportunity to get their foot in the door from the comfort of their own homes.
“As this is our tenth season, in celebration of this fact, we wanted to cast our talent net even further to make sure we discover the best talent ever,” Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said in a statement Thursday. “Involving MySpace means now – for the first time – artists can post their auditions online prior to attending our live auditions. We are hoping and expecting this to be the biggest ever talent search in our history.”
This summer’s A.I. audition tour will hit Jersey City, NJ; Nashville, TN; New Orleans, LA; and San Francisco, CA.
American Idol — sans acid-tongued judge Simon Cowell — will return to FOX next winter.
