Hollywood and originality just don’t mix……Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, the 1989 box office comedy that spawned a series of spinoffs and sequels for The Walt Disney Company throughout the 1990s, is getting the remake treatment in the form of a new do-over. According to recent reports, preproduction is underway to have the classic flick, which saw Rick Moranis as a professor who accidentally shrinks his children, reappear on screen with an all new cast.

“It won’t be a sequel to the other films – if only because Mr. Moranis has retired. Not sure how far it is along, but it is in the works,” a tipster told Australian’s What’s Playing Now? on Saturday.

The movie was reincarnated in its first sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, in 1994, when the original cast returned to watch Moranis enlarge his two-year-old. Disney created a 3D attracted called Honey, I Shrunk the Audience at Orlando’s Epcot Center later the same year. In 1997, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves — featuring Moranis and a young Mila Kunis — hit the straight-to-video circuit. The animated Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show aired on The Disney Channel from 1997 to 2000.
