MTV will air a public service announcement on violence against women following next week’s episode of the network’s controversial new lifestyle-soap, Jersey Shore.
In the eppy, airing Dec. 17, cast member — and self-professed “Guidette” — Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi, 21, gets slugged right in the kisser during an argument with a male barfly. The man has since been arrested, but the clip has sparked outrage from viewers — prompting MTV to take an active stance against the disturbing enchange.
The PSA, set to air following next Thursday night’s show, reads: “Violence against women in any form is a crime. If you or someone you know is being abused by a boyfriend, family member or total stranger, please call 911 or log on to www.loveisrespect.org for information and help. You can also call The National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline at 1-866-331-9474 for immediate support.”
