“Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The condition is in its very early stages,” said a statement from public relations firm Brown Lloyd James. “Andrew is now undergoing treatment and expects to be fully back at work before the end of the year.”

Lloyd Webber, 61, recently announced plans for a sequel to his immensely-popular Broadway musical “Phantom of the Opera,” called “Love Never Dies.” He said the sequel resulted from “unfinished business.” The production is scheduled to open on London’s West End in March before invading New York’s Great White Way in November.

Lloyd Webber’s other great musical hits include “Cats,” ‘‘Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “Evita.” In 1992, he was knighted and later named to Britain’s House of Lords in 1997.
