Brittany Murphy may have died of natural causes, according to a new report from The Associated Press.
The 32-year-old actress, who got her start in the 1995 sleeper hit Clueless, died in Los Angeles Sunday of what appears to be natural causes, a Los Angeles County coroner’s official said this evening. Officials are looking into the actress’ medical history. An official cause of death will be announced in 6-8 weeks, pending the results of toxicology tests.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The AP Sunday that Murphy collapsed in the bathroom of her North Hollywood home this morning. She was rushed to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:18 AM. He also told them that Murphy’s family is cooperating with the coroner’s investigation and that an autopsy is planned for Monday or Tuesday.
“It appears to be natural at this time. We do understand she had a bit of medical history,” he explained. “We’ll be probably doing an autopsy tomorrow or Tuesday. The final results will be pending toxicology and further tests.â€
Brittany’s family released a new statement on Sunday night: “The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
