Clay Aiken will be releasing his fifth studio album, Tried and True, on June 1, — and the
American Idol alum is getting back to basics.
The wispy powerhouse chose the title because the album will be a cover album of classic tunes from the 1950s & ’60s; a collection of timeless classics very similar to the one blue-eyed soul star Michael McDonald released a few years ago. Genesis legend Phil Collins also has a cover LP set for release next month.
“There are a lot of elements to this album that are about me returning to what I’m comfortable with. To me, older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful. So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself,” Clay explains.
Old-time favorites headed our way on Tried and True include: “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Misty,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Mack the Knife,” and “Unchained Melody.”
In other Aiken news, Clay will be hitting the road next for a summer tour with his buddy and former A.I. castmate Ruben Studdard.
