Detectives in New York City after ruled out the possibility that a break-in at reality TV dad Jon Gosselin’s Upper West Side bachelor pad last week may have been staged, NYPD officials said Monday.

After spending the holidays in Pennsylvania with his eight children, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star returned to Manhattan Saturday night to find the penthouse had been trashed. A television, CD player, a Nintendo Wii game and kitchen items were allegedly missing. Clothing, bedding and furnishings had apparently been slashed with a butcher knife.

Investigators are looking into a number of claims including that the alleged burglary was staged as a publicity stunt by former girlfriend Hailey Glassman, police commisioner Raymond Kelly tells The New York Daily News.

“The investigation is going forward. I know there are some allegations about whether or not it was staged. The detectives are looking at this incident.”

Glassman, 22, has denied she ransacked the W. 72nd St. pad she once shared with Gosselin. Attorneys for the young woman say she only removed her own items for the apartment and insist she’s been set up.
