When Elin talks, PEOPLE listen.

An estimated 2 million celeb gawkers rushed to their local newsstands to pick up the Sept. 6 edition of PEOPLE Magazine, which featured an explosively-candid chat with Elin Nordegren — perhaps best known as the former Mrs. Tiger Woods.

PEOPLE editors were so confident that the Nordegren tell-all would be a big seller that they raised their price and printed a few thousand additional copies — and they haven’t done that since the debut of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins Knox and Vivienne back in Aug. 2008!

The coup was a big hit with tabloid fans.

“Everyone at People will be popping the champagne this morning. Early numbers show that Elin sold around 2 million copies, way up from its average of 1.4 million, yet not quite the 2.5 million Angelina sold,” squeals a publishing industry snoop.

The chat with PEOPLE was Elin’s first (and so she says last) interview ever, despite being married to the world’s best golfer for more than six years. Their split came nine months after a suspicious Thanksgiving weekend car crash blew the lid off a series of extramarital trysts the golf star carried out over the course of their union. Terms of the Woods divorce settlement were not released, but estimates have Nordegren receiving as much as $100 million of Woods’ estimated $600 million worth.
