In 2008, 17 percent of the population in the EU was at risk of poverty, Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office has announced.

According to the statistical data, the lowest at-risk-of-poverty rates in 2008 were found in Czech Republic – nine percent and the Netherlands and Slovakia – both 11 percent.
