Brittany was born in Atlanta on November 10, 1977. She grew up in New Jersey and later moved with her mother to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career.

Brittany’s dad, Angelo Bertolotti, told The Associated Press he learned of the actress’ death from his son and was stunned.

“She was just an absolute doll since she was born,” Bertolotti said from his Florida home Sunday. “Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her – people that made movies with her, people on a cruise – they all loved her. She was just a regular gal.”

He said he had not heard much about the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death, as he had not seen Murphy much in the past few years. Bertolotti is a former member of the mob and served prison time on federal drug charges.

“She was just talented, and I loved her very much.”
