GE is going to sell a line of “smart charging stations†that are regarded to be the devices which optimize charging for electric vehicles by means of communication with utilities.
The devices will appear in the market this spring. It can become a key technology for electric cars as due to which it could be possible to cut down on consumer electricity bills. It is expected that utilities would be able to base on intermittent renewable sources of energy like wind power and solar.
With the help of smart charges the electric cars will be programmed to delay charging until the middle of the night in case demand is low.
Moreover, the chargers are also able to respond to real-time price signals that are sent by utilities to GE’s smart meters. Such signals could evoke alterations in charging due to which electric vehicles can utilize them as a buffer.
Moreover, the GE charge can provide power kept in a car’s batteries in case of emergencies. Owners who allow utilities to draw power from their cars are able to receive discounts on electricity rates. But it should be admitted that such feature won’t be used for many years.
