Such things as social media and geolocation are discussed in the closed-door sessions as well as in the hallways. A lot of attention is drawn towards the geolocation moves of big players like Nokia and Google. The two companies develop huge databases that associate location data with places in the real world by means of 3G, GPS, as well as Wi-Fi networks.

Not so long ago Twitter launched the addition of a location tag to tweets. In fact, location tag will involve a photograph of the place, name and also the actual latitudinal/longitudinal location data.

But still many young companies such as Foursquare can face a huge challenge, i.e. the way to access as well as utilize those large databases in order their users could benefit it. In case the amount of an API-based approach to accessing the geolocation databases increases it can lead to fire off the next big wave of innovation in mobile Web apps.

But still the business model is a bit fuzzy, but it does not mean that «monetization” is considered to be the main subject of conversation at SXSW.
