On Tuesday IBM, HP, and Dell unveiled servers that are based on new Xeon 5600 microprocessors developed by Intel. It is expected that users will be enabled with better performance as well as power consumption.
The companies are offering new rack, blade and tower servers that integrate Intel’s Xeon 5600 quad-core and six-core processors.
According to analysts, the servers will take advantage from new processors as they offer better speed compared to the predecessor Xeon 5500 chips that were launched last year. Moreover, the new chips will provide better performance and also they will use less power, due to which electricity bills along with facility costs will be lesser.
With the help of new chips, it will be possible to improve server sales that reduced since the start of 2009. The shipment of servers across the world amounted to 2.2 million during the fourth quarter of 2009 which is considered to be bigger compared to the fourth quarter of 2008. But still server revenue decreased by 3.2 percent, it happened because of falling prices.
Apart from offering the x3650 M3 and the x3550 M3 together with two enterprise tower servers, IBM is going to unveil the “virtualization-optimized” BladeCenter HS22V blade server.
It should be mentioned that the three companies did not disclose the price tag of the servers. Only Dell said about the shipping date, its device will be available in the market next week.
