A very festive-looking John Mayer talked dating on Tuesday’s Ellen — although most of us were more interested in knowing why he showed up looking like he’d been dressed by his Grandma. While he may be known as one of Hollywood’s most notorious ladies’ men, the “Clarity” singer says he’s “a little freaked out” about getting back into the Singles Game after his split from actress Jennifer Aniston earlier this year.

“I’m not dating,” John told Ellen. “I don’t know if you know this, I have sort of a funny track record, which is actually not that strange given my age. I’m a little freaked out right now about it, to be honest.”

The singer has been linked to a bevy of Hollywood beauties, including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Jennifer Aniston.

“I’m a little freaked out about dating,” he explained. “So, I’m just going to let time pass and just do my thing.”

John said he hopes the year ahead will be full of peace. “I have a good heart… I think I may have gotten lost a couple of times, but so does everybody. I’m just going to hunker down. 2010 is [going to be] a peaceful year for me no matter what I do.”
