A Mumbai special court is likely to complete the recording of the statement of Pakistani terror accused Mohammed Ajmal Amir alias Kasab by the middle of next week.
Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani started recording Kasab’s statement under Section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code Dec 18, 2009.
So far, Tahaliyani has posed over 1,140 questions to the prime accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack of November 2008 that left nearly 170 Indians and foreigners dead.
Tahaliyani said that Kasab’s statement would be recorded next Monday and then Wednesday.
Till now, Kasab has been denying his role in the terror attack blamed on him and nine other Pakistani terrorists who sneaked into Mumbai by the sea from Pakistan and went on a killing spree.
The Special Court is yet to question him on the testimonies of the officials of US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who had deposed last year.
After Kasab’s statement is recorded, the Special Court will take up the recording of the statements of his co-accused, Fahim Ansari and Sabhuddin Ahmed.
The duo is accused of conducting recce of the targeted locations, preparing maps and passing them on to operatives of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistani terror group accused of masterminding the Mumbai carnage.
