O’Dell is out! Entertainment journalist Nancy O’Dell is exiting her anchor seat on NBC’s celebrity newsmagazine Access Hollywood after 13 seasons, PEOPLE Magazine reported on Thursday. Insiders close to the show say Nancy — who has fronted the program since it’s inception — is leaving Access two years before her contract expires after becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the show’s tabloid-esque slant in recent months.
“The original member of the Access Hollywood family, co-anchor and respected broadcast journalist Nancy O’Dell, has chosen to leave the show after 13 years,” read a statement from O’Dell’s rep this afternoon. “O’Dell appreciates NBC’s cooperation as she begins this next chapter in her career. Even though she will be leaving for a new opportunity, this decision is based totally on Nancy’s desire to take her career to the next level and is completely amicable. She will continue on with projects as a broadcast entertainment journalist.”
Nancy’s final show will air this Friday, Dec. 18.
