Naxalites opened fire at several places towards the close of re-polling in Gadchiroli district on Thursday, even as security personnel promptly returned fire but there was no reports of injury or casualty.

The firing incidents took place at Markegaon, Kondali and Kotami and Tadgaon when the election staff was returning after conducting the re-polling.

Adequate police force was deployed today in view of re-poll in 22 polling stations spread across three Assembly constituencies of Aheri, Armouri and Gadchiroli in Gadchiroli district in eastern Maharashtra, police added.

Officials said the re-polling went off peacefully barring the firing incidents.
