Jersey vs. Jersey Shore New Jersey Hates “Jersey Shore”

Governor Chris Christie isn’t the only Jersey Boy who cringes everytime Snooki takes a shot of Tequila. From Jerseylicious to The Real Housewives of New Jersey, The Garden State is cornering the market on Trashtastic Television. And the Good People of NJ don’t like it — not one little bit!

According to a new poll conducted by Quinnipac University, 51% of New Jersey residents quizzed have an unfavorable opinion of the hit MTV reality series. The poll also found that one in three New Jersey voters believe the vodka-soaked cast of The Shore behave badly because most of its stars hail from New York. Burn! The sentiment is shared by Gov. Christie, who has publicly slammed the show for relying on a “bunch of people from New York” to give New Jersey a bad rap. In fact, only one of Jersey Shore’s eight series regulars — Sammi Sweetheart — hails from The Garden State.

“Garden State voters don’t like the show and believe it’s bad for the state,” says Maurice Carroll, Director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “They back Gov. Christopher Christie over Gov. David Paterson almost 2-1 in deciding who to blame for the hijinx of Snooki, The Situation and the rest.”

Jerseyans may not enjoy it, but someone’s watching this tomfoolery. The Shore train just keeps steamrolling its competition week after week! Last Thursday’s episode was one of the week’s top-rated series, bringing in 5.5 million viewers and beating out the entire Thursday night lineup.
