US stocks rose last night after another round of solid economic reports, but pulled off session highs after a Federal Reserve official’s warning about banks’ loan losses.
Bulk carriers: The Baltic Dry Index, which measures the cost of shipping commodities, rose 2.6% in London yesterday, bringing its three-day gain to 6.7%. Cosco Corp. Singapore (COS SP), a China-based shipbuilder that also operates bulk carriers, slid 0.9% to $1.12. STX Pan Ocean (STX SP), South Korea’s biggest bulk carrier, dropped 2.4% to $12.96. Mercator Lines Singapore (MRLN SP), an Indian bulk carrier, sank 3.3% to 29.5 cents.
