The nurses in 14 Minnesota hospitals have stopped serving the patients as they are on strike to protest their heavy workload. They are complaining that they have to care for too many patients at a time and that it is not good for the patient safety also.
As a result of the strike, hospitals had to hire replacement nurses and had to call non-unionized staff also. Earlier also nurses had gone to strike in California over the same issue but the court had blocked the strike temporarily.
On the other hand, the hospitals in the area say that the strike is a stunt to build up membership and more power for a national nurses union.
