Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has inaugurated the Rs 450 crore new Tamil Nadu assembly and secretariat complex in the presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Chennai on Saturday evening.

The new complex, built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, has come up in place of the 100 years old government guest house, which was demolished.

Dr Singh, accompanied by Congress President Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the Green building complex in the presence of Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Mr Karunanidhi on Saturday.

Besides Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi, Chief Ministers of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, a host of Union Ministers, MPs, MLAs and leaders of various political parties, including the BJP and CPI(M) graced the function.

The inauguration marked the fulfillment of Mr Karunanidhi’s ambition to see the complex completed in a record time of two years.
