Critically-acclaimed lensman Steven Spielberg was scared out of his wits after watching an advance copy of the low-budget horror hit Paranormal Activity. The Jurassic Park director put the DVD of the film in a garbage bag, vowing never to let it in his house again, an unidentified Paramount Pictures production insider spills to The Daily Express.
Spielberg apparently got really terrified when a bedroom door at his home suddenly locked from the inside. He reportedly returned to his office next day carrying the DVD and swearing he never wanted it around him.
“The incident really spooked Steven and he didn’t want the film anywhere near his home. Steven doesn’t scare easily but told everyone what had happened at his home. Everyone hears bumps in the night and strange noises in their home,” the insider added.
“He knew this film tapped into that. He became convinced that the film would be a huge hit. “
Paranormal Activity, directed by Israeli-born video game programmer Oren Peli, features couple trying to make a video of a demonic presence in their home. The film rose to prominence by word of mouth on social networking mecca like Facebook.com and Twitter.com. It has been cited by critics as “one of the scariest movies of all time” and recently surpassed 1999’s The Blair Witch Project as the most profitable film in cinema history.
