The Straits Times index gained 0.9% to 2,734.29 as of 9:20 a.m. local time, set for its highest closing level since Sept. 2, 2008. Thirteen stocks rose for each that fell on the 30-member gauge. The following shares were among the most active in the market.
Commodity suppliers: The Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index, which tracks 19 commodities, rose 0.7% in New York yesterday to its highest closing level since Nov. 4. Olam International (OLAM SP), a supplier of agricultural commodities, climbed 1.9% to $2.75. Noble Group (NOBL SP), a Hong Kong-based commodity supplier, gained 1.5% to $2.67.
