The biggest piece of news out of Google’s Nexus One launch Jan. 5 wasn’t the device itself, though the thin, sleek HTC-built Android 2.1-based smartphone was a marvel for some who attended (such as the press and analysts who received free units). But for many the real story was Google’s launch of a Webstore to sell the Nexus One and other Android devices in the future. Google is selling the Nexus One unlocked for $529, or $179 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile. In the spring, verizon Wireless and Vodafone will support the Nexus One as well.
