The political uncertainty in Afghanistan has lend the United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon in Kabul on Monday for the purpose of holding talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai following the opposition’s decision to pull out of a run-off election scheduled for 7th November.
A statement released in reference to the deadly attack on a UN guesthouse, said, “Secretary General Ban has now arrived in-country to express his solidarity with the men and women of the United Nations following last week’s tragic events.”
“He will be meeting with President Karzai during the course of the day as well as with Dr Abdullah.
Ban’s visit comes a day after former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah’s announcement not to participate in a presidential election run-off, citing fears of fraudulent elements, leaving his supporters to continue the campaign.
