SIA off 1.1%; 3Q saved by savvy Hedging – UOB KayHian

Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) is off 1.1% at $14.88, in line with a broadly weaker market, despite below-consensus 3Q results, with management noting a cloudy outlook. UOB KayHian says SIA’s “strong grip on its costs” could support its stock near term; the house notes passenger unit costs were at 8.6 cents/ASK, against its forecast of 9.0 cents/ASK; “This suggests that SIA had hedged a substantial portion of fuel requirements.”

STI drops 1.1% to 3,205.48 at closing

Singapore’s Straits Times Index dropped 1.1% to 3,205.48 at the close, the most since Nov. 23. All but one of 30 companies in the benchmark index declined.

Shares on the measure trade at an average 14.6 times estimated earnings, compared with about 15.6 times at the end of 2010, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The following shares were among the most active in the market.

STI slumps at 1.1%; 3200 support should hold – DBS Vickers

Singapore’s STI is down 1.1% at 3206.11, tracking broad declines across the region, which are led by the Shanghai Composite Index’s 2.9% fall on unabated concerns over further tightening measures from Beijing, which would put the brakes on the world’s second largest economy.

“Singapore’s equities are reacting in response to near term weakness in Shanghai,” says Yeo Kee Kian, a market strategist with DBS Vickers.

CapitaCommercial Trust’s FY 2010 DPU of 7.83 cents, up 11% from 2009

CapitaCommercial Trust (CCT), Singapore’s first listed commercial REIT with a market capitalisation of $4.3 billion, says distributable income of $221.0 million for the financial year ended 31 December 2010 (FY 2010).

This is 11.3% above the same period last year.

FY 2010 estimated distribution per unit (DPU) of 7.83 cents is a 10.9% year-on-year increase from FY 2009 DPU of 7.06 cents.

Tiger +1.1%; Strong numbers but stock expensive: Credit Suisse

Tiger Airways (J7X.SG) is +1.1% at $1.82, in average volume of 939,000 shares so far, as the airline’s solid December operating data fail to generate much excitement.

The carrier reported it flew 555,000 passengers in December, +22% on-year, +19.6% on-month, at an average load factor of 91%, +1 percentage point on-year.
