Singapore to release final Q1 GDP data on May 20

Singapore will release final gross domestic product (GDP) data for the first quarter of 2010 on May 20, the government said today. Preliminary GDP data, released in April, showed the economy grew a record high of 32.1% on a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted annualised rate. From a year ago, Singapore’s GDP expanded by 13.1%.

Spain unemployment rate hits 20 pct.

Spain’s unemployment rate has hit 20% for the first time in nearly 13 years, official figures have shown. There were 4,612,700 people unemployed in the country at the end of March, the national statistics agency INE said.

China Zaino posts 20% fall in net profit to $15.6m

China Zaino International has recorded a revenue of RMB496.9 million ($100 million) for the first quarter ended 31 March 2010, a decrease of 17.7% over revenue of RMB603.4 million for the same period last year. The decrease in revenue was mainly attributable to the decrease in sales volume of backpacks. Net profit also decreased 19.9% to RMB77.3 million.
