Stanchart says to add 2,000 staff in Singapore by end-2012

Standard Chartered (STAN.L), the emerging markets-focused British lender, plans to add 2,000 more staff jobs at its office in Singapore, a senior bank official said on Friday.

The additions would be completed by the end of 2012, said Ray Ferguson, the head of Standard Chartered’s Singapore office, at the opening of the bank’s new premises at the city’s Marina Bay Financial Centre, which includes a three-floor trading room with 790 seats.

Trek 2000 says 3Q net profit jumps fourfold to $1.7m

Trek 2000 International, the inventor of USB flash drives, reported net profit after tax of US$1.2 million ($1.7 million) for the three months ending Sept 30 (3Q FY10) against US$0.3 million in 3Q FY09.

The quarter also saw a 20.8% y-o-y increase in revenue to US$16.7 million as it saw higher sales across all business segments.

Gross profit margin improved to 16.9% in 3Q10 from 10% in 3Q09 on success of group’s proprietary security solutions.

Trek 2000 says the group will continue to leverage on R&D capabilities to bring new products to market.

Trek 2000 International, the inventor of the ThumbDrive and FluCard, today announced a 138.1% jump in half-year net profit to US$1.3 million ($1.77 million) from US$0.5 million in the corresponding period last year.

Tanker collision spills 2,000 tons oil off Singapore: Update

A tanker collided with a bulk carrier off Singapore’s southeastern coast, spilling 2,000 metric tons of crude oil near the world’s busiest container port.

The MT Bunga Kelana 3 tanker collided with the MV Waily at about 6:10 a.m. local time in the Singapore Strait, 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of Changi East, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in a statement. An estimated 140,000 vessels call at Singapore each year, it said on its website. The city-state is also the world’s largest bunkering, or marine fuel, port and Asia’s biggest oil-storage center.

Standard Chartered to add 2,000 staff in Singapore: Update

Standard Chartered Plc, the British lender that earns at least three-quarters of its profit in Asia, plans to increase its staff in Singapore by more than a third over the next three years.

The bank intends to add about 2,000 people to the 6,000 staff it now employs, Ray Ferguson, Standard Chartered’s regional chief executive for Singapore and Southeast Asia, said in Singapore today. The bank expects double-digit annual growth in staff in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, he said.
