Popular Holdings, the bookshop operator and property developer, reported net profit for the third quarter ended Jan 31, 2010 rose 47.5% to $7.85 million on the back of a 6.6% increase in sales to $147.25 million.

Hi-P International posts 47.5% fall in full-year net profit to $53.7m
Hi-P International, the electro-mechanics manufacturer for wireless communications and consumer electronics, registered a net profit of $53.7 million and revenue of $749.9 million for the 12 months ended 31 December 2009 (FY2009).
FY2009 revenue decreased by 30.4% to $749.9 million compared to FY2008, mainly due to the End-of- Life (EOL) of several projects during 2H2009. This resulted in a lower volume and average selling price of these products.
Avaya Bids $475 Million for Nortel Enterprise Business
Nortel, the bankrupt communications vendor looking to sell off its businesses to raise money, has accepted a $475 million bid from Avaya for its Enterprise Solutions Business. The agreement sets the floor for the bidding for the business unit, and gives Avaya the right to match other bids. The announcement comes a month after Nortel announced a similar agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks for two other business units. One analyst said he expects consolidation in the bloated business communications market to continue.
