Motorola Atrix 4G, Droid Bionic Smartphones, Toshiba Tablet Impress at CES

LAS VEGAS& With more than 10 million Galaxy S handsets sold, Samsung may be the worldwide leader in Android smartphones. But Motorola easily dusted Samsung in the presentation category at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show here this week. The phone maker, which has put all its chips on the Android table, became a tablet maker with the Motorola Xoom dual-core device, slated for launch in February. The Xoom sports Android 3.0 with several 3-D capabilities baked into the UI. Motorola also unveiled two high-end smartphones running on the top two U.S. carriers’ networks: the Atrix 4G on AT&T and the Droid Bionic for Verizon Wireless. After their initial launch Jan. 5, eWEEK tracked down all of the gadgets on the show floor. The devices were tethered, so it was hard to judge their weight and feel, but the processing speed was definitely impressive running YouTube and other applications. Dell, T-Mobile Design Streak 7 Tablet for 4G Cruising

Dell and T-Mobile have joined forces to produce the 7-inch Streak 7 tablet, specifically designed for T-Mobiles 4G network. Unveiled at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the tablet joins other Android-based devices flooding the market. The Streak 7 will hit store shelves “in coming weeks,” according to T-Mobile and Dell, although neither company is yet offering a firm price-point.
Adding two inches to the screen-size of the original 5-inch Dell Streak but keeping many of the same hardware and software notes, the Streak 7 is a device whose form-factor seems tailored to compete with other 7-inch Android-based tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab. That being said, though, a handful of rival tablets being unveiled at CES run Android 3.0, which is supposedly optimized for tablets. That means the Streak 7, running Android 2.2, might have to undergo an upgrade in coming months if it wants to stay competitive within this fast-evolving market something that previously happened with the 5-inch Streak, which had to upgrade from Android 1.6 to 2.2 a few months after its August 2010 release in the United States. – …
