President Boris Tadić said on Tuesday in Belgrade that Serbia would enter the European Union between 2016 and 2020. At a conference on the country’s less developed regions, he said that 2016 would be “the best possible result, a record to break all records, with respect to other countries, while 2020 would be a unremarkable result.”

Serbian Deputy PM Božidar Äelić has stated that the issue of Kosovo-Metohija has to be solved previous to Serbia’ EU accession, which is not viable before 2015. The unanimous decision of the EU foreign ministers to forward Serbia’s EU candidacy application to the European Commission (EC) has been another step forward in our vision of the EU accession. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called on the EU to demand the arrest of Ratko Mladić before it allows Serbia to establish closer ties with Brussels.
