Aberdeen said to be in discussions to acquire RBS’s fund unit

Aberdeen Asset Management Plc, Scotland’s largest money manager, is in talks to acquire Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc’s fund management division, said two people familiar with the discussions.

Aberdeen may buy the unit for as much as 100 million pounds ($227 million) as soon as this month, said one of the people, who declined to be identified because the talks are private. The purchase would add as much as $45 billion of assets under management to the US$237 billion ($331 billion) Aberdeen already oversees.

Teledata to acquire 78% of Indonesian Internet service provider for $17.2m

Teledata (Singapore), the regional IT systems integrator and communications services company, plans to acquire a major stake in a leading Indonesia-based Internet service provider, PT Centrin Online Tbk.

In its very first M&A deal under a new controlling shareholder and management, Teledata has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to acquire 446.74 million shares representing 77.679% of the issued and paid up capital of PT Centrin, for Indonesian Rupiah 116,152,400,000 or $17.2 million.

Microsoft to Acquire Health Care IT Company Sentillion

Microsoft plans to acquire Sentillion, a privately held health care IT company that provides software applications for caregivers and physicians. Microsoft has made a number of partnerships in health care IT throughout 2009, including a deal with the American Medical Association to give physicians access to patient records through Microsoft’s HealthVault application. IT companies ranging from Google to Intel and Oracle have also pushed into the health care IT space.

Mandarin Oriental may acquire luxury hotel brands

Mandarin Oriental International, operator of 25 luxury hotels from Tokyo to San Francisco, may buy more brands as lodging companies struggle amid a decline in spending, Chief Executive Officer Edouard Ettedgui said.

“We probably can reach 80 to 100 hotels on our own, but if we want to get to 200, we have to do that through brand acquisitions,” Ettedgui said in an interview at the opening of the 392-room Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas. “If a luxury brand becomes available at a reasonable price, we’re interested.”

Cisco is set to acquire SAAS security vendor ScanSafe for roughly $183 million. The move, Cisco says, will help add to the Web security capabilities the company acquired when it bought IronPort two years ago.

Google will buy large and small companies across many of its business lines, including search, advertising, enterprise, and Web browsing and operating systems, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said during the search engine’s third-quarter conference call. In a rare admission of Google’s acquisition focuses, Schmidt opened the door for a lot of speculation in describing the types of purchases he and his corporate development team are eyeing. Cisco to Acquire Starent for $2.9B as Buying Spree Continues

Cisco is buying wireless infrastructure company Starent for $2.9 billion, the latest significant acquisition this year, following such purchases as Pure Digital and Tandberg. The move gives Cisco a greater wireless offering in a competitive space that includes the likes of Alcatel-Lucent, and comes as Cisco predicts mobile Internet traffic will double every year through at least 2013.

Mobile, broadband and IDD service provider MobileOne (M1) today says wholly-owned subsidiary, M1 Net, has entered into an agreement to acquire all the issued and paid up ordinary shares of Qala Singapore Pte Ltd.
