Arianna Huffington: Why Visiting Pompeii Has Me Thinking About the Smoke Billowing Out of Our Economic Mt. Vesuvius

POMPEII — Walking around the ancient city of Pompeii, reading up on its history, and thinking of its people — wiped out in 79 A.D. by a volcanic eruption — got me thinking about unheeded warning signs. In the case of Pompeii, these signs included a severe earthquake, dogs running away, and columns of smoke belching out of Mount Vesuvius. But these warning signs were ignored, and the volcano blew its top, burying the city and its inhabitants under 60 feet of ash and volcanic rock. – Microsoft’s
Bing search engine may have gained users during its first few weeks of release,
but a July 14 report by research company SearchIgnite found that Microsofts
share of the U.S. paid search advertising market remained stagnant for the
quarter.

Microsofts share of the paid search adve…

10 Features of the Smarter Office Application Suite

Microsoft Office, Zoho, OpenOffice and Google Docs are all claiming to be the new future of office productivity. Here’s
what they really need to be future-proof.
– 1. Permanence. This may sound strange, but the ability to read documents 20 years in the future should be a requirement. I recently went to England where at a museum my ancient-languages-enabled son was able to decipher the words from the oldest fragment (125 A.D.) of the New Testament. I’m not su…
