Albanians submit petition, protest against Marty

A delegation of “organizations of war veterans of the KLA” was in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
They submitted a petition to Council Of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland, which they said contained more than 230,000 signatures collected against the Kosovo human organ trafficking report by CoE Rapporteur Dick Marty.

K. Albanians applying for Serbian documents

The Vranje town administration receives about 150 applications every day from residents of Kosovo interested in obtaining Serbian personal documents. A majority of those are ethnic Albanians, according to the administration chief Nebojša Ljubić.

Albanians against organ trafficking report

Albanians are signing a petition against the report prepared by the Council of Europe rapporteur Dick Marty. The Swiss senator published the report late last year, naming Kosovo Albanian PM and former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) as being responsible for kidnappings of Serbs and other civilians in the province.

K. Albanians protest against Marty’s report

Around 500 ethnic Albanians protested in southern K. Mitrovica on Saturday against the report authored by Council of Europe Special Rapporteur Dick Marty.

No incidents occurred during the protest, which was organized by NGO Rilindia and veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

K. Albanians: Marty report postpones dialogue

A Kosovo Albanian official who holds the office of acting Kosovo president says the Marty report may postpone the Belgrade-PriÅ¡tina dialogue. Jakup Krasniqi has stated that the “Kosovo institutions must clarify the situation after accusations and slander” he says was done by Special Rapporteur of the Council of Europe (CoE) Dick Marty.

Croatia lifts visas for Albanians

The Croatian government has decided to abolish visas for the citizens of Albania as of next year, ATA news agency reported.

As of January 1, 2011, the citizens of Albania will no longer require visas when crossing Croatian borders or staying in the country up to 90 days.

K. Albanians in favor of talks with Belgrade

Over 60 percent of Kosovo Albanians want dialogue with Belgrade, showed a new survey carried out by the Foreign Policy Club in Priština. Of the 1050 people surveyed, 62 percent said they supported starting talks with Belgrade.

K. Albanians: Marty report is “racist”

Acting Kosovo President Jakup Krasnici said on Wednesday that the draft report by Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty is “racist”. He also protested against claims that Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci was a leader in the trafficking of body parts of Kosovo Serbs following the 1999 conflict in Kosovo.

K. Albanians arrested for war crimes

Two ethnic Albanians have been placed under arrest today on suspicion that they committed war crimes against civilians. The arrest was carried out by EULEX and Kosovo police, KPS, in the area of the town of Prizren.

Minister: Negotiations by year’s end

Belgrade wants negotiations with Priština and historical reconciliation of Serbs and Albanians as soon as possible, says Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović.

He has stated that the status of Kosovo will be inevitably discussed.

81% of K. Albanians want Greater Albania

A new survey has shown that more than 80 percent of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo support the formation of a Greater Albania. Greater Albania would comprise Albania and territories of other countries: Kosovo, and parts of Macedonia.

K. Albanians seek Albania’s citizenship

Number of Kosovo Albanians who seek Albanian citizenship has increased after the EU lifted visa requirements for Albanian citizens, Priština-based media report.

They point out that residents of Kosovo need to meet numerous criteria in order to get the Albanian citizenship.

“Albanians unwilling to cooperate with UNMIK”

Some Kosovo authorities became less willing to cooperate with UNMIK in northern Kosovska Mitrovica following the ICJ opinion, UNMIK Head Lamberto Zannier says.

Presenting a report on Kosovo which covers the period from July 16 to October 18 to the UN Security Council on Friday, Zannier said that the UNMIK administration in northern Kosovska Mitrovica faced several challenges during this time.

Valley Albanians attend “greater Albania” gathering

Oliver Ivanović stated on Monday that the dangerous concept of a “greater Albania” has never ceased to exist. But the state secretary with the Serbian Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija said it can “never materialize because there is no consensus of political powers in the EU and in the world”.

Albanians try to take down Serbian flag

Almost simultaneously, Albanians protested in front of the Serbian embassy buildings in Belgium and Macedonia against the burning of the Albanian flag. Serbian soccer hooligans burned the Albanian flag during the soccer match in Genoa this week.

Elections in Kosovo scheduled for Feb. 13

The first early elections for the assembly in PriÅ¡tina since Kosovo’s Albanians unilaterally declared independence will be held on February 13, 2011. This is according to acting Kosovo President Jakup Krasnici, who spoke on Friday.

K. Albanians want to attend enthronement

A Kosovo Albanian government official says Hashim Thaci and Fatmir Sejdiu want to attend the enthronement of Serbian Patriarch Irinej. The ceremony will be held at the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Patriarchate of Peć.

K. Albanians accuse UNMIK over north

A Kosovo Albanian government office in PriÅ¡tina says UN mission, UNMIK, “has turned into a real obstacle for improvement of the situation” in K. Mitrovica. The office that produced the report is in charge of implementing the so-called strategy for northern Kosovo.

“K. Albanians want EULEX to act in north”

The Kosovo Albanian president and prime minister requested from EULEX to act in mostly Serb northern Kosovo, said reports. The Albanian language daily Koha Ditore writes that they want the EU mission to “begin combating organized crime and arresting the main suspects for smuggling and other serious criminal acts”.

EU on dialog with Serbs and Albanians

Catherine Ashton “hopes to get the first chance to meet with Serbian and Kosovo representatives next week in New York”, a European diplomat said. In a joint resolution of the EU and Serbia, passed on September 9 by the UN General Assembly, Belgrade and PriÅ¡tina were invited to initiate a “dialog”.
