Grateful Dead: Europe Â’72 Tour Box Set
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED, LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION
AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT DEAD.NET AND SHIPS IN SEPTEMBER
![]() sketch of new box set |
Grateful Dead slipped the
shores of America and crossed the pond for its first-ever major European tour in April 1972. The legendary 22-
show run spawned Europe ’72, a live triple album that remains one of the band’s best-selling and most
beloved releases. A tour this momentous deserves a boxed set of historic proportions and Dead.net has stamped your passport to relive every note from the European tour
with Europe ’72: The Complete Recordings, an individually numbered, limited edition collection
that includes more than 60 discs with over 70 hours of music featuring every show from what is arguably the
Grateful Dead’s greatest tour. The box set ships in September.
Europe ’72: The Complete Recordings is housed in a replica steamer trunk reminiscent of the ones
prevalently used at the time. The travel
chest contains tour memorabilia, a coffee-table book with never-before-seen photos, and a comprehensive essay
by noted Dead author Blair Jackson. Each performance will also be accompanied by an essay specific to
the show written by top Dead scholars including David Gans, Gary Lambert, Nicholas Meriwether, and
Steve Silberman.
Jeffrey Norman, the primary mixer of the Dead’s archival multi-track material for the past 15 years, is
mixing each
show from the original 16-track recordings.
Due to ship in September, the boxed set is available exclusively from Dead.net, which is taking orders now. The
price of the collection is $450, which works out to the remarkably low price of about $20 for each show, or roughly
the cost of a transatlantic flight from New York City to London in 1972 (price of time machine not included).
The first 3,000 fans to order will have
their copy personalized with a name requested by the purchaser. Once the 3,000 order goal is reached by April 1,
Dead.net will continue to take orders through the summer but will limit production of the collection to a maximum
of 7,200 pieces, all of which will be individually numbered. Orders will no longer be taken at some date (to be
determined) later in the summer.
The tour offers a snapshot of a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums—
Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty, and the live Grateful Dead (“Skull & Roses”). It had been a
year since
the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been
broken in as the group’s exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as
a member of the touring band.
There was a ton of new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 and during the spring of
’72, including “Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “Mexicali Blues,” “Comes A Time,” “Ramble On Rose,” “One More
Saturday Night,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Looks Like Rain” and Pigpen‘s “Chinatown Shuffle,” “The Stranger
(Two
Souls In Communion)” and “Mr. Charlie.” (Sadly, this was Pigpen’s final tour.) All those future classics were
interspersed with songs from the aforementioned “hit” albums—such as “Uncle John’s Band,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar
Magnolia,” “Bertha,” and “Not Fade Away”—and then were topped off by loads of big jamming numbers—the Europe
’72 tour produced spectacular versions of “Dark Star,” “The Other One,” “Playing in the Band,” “Truckin’,” “China Cat
Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider,” “Good Lovin’,” “Lovelight,” and even the early Pig chestnut “Caution.”

- Five new follow-on deals also announced.
- The new investments align with Intel’s strategic objectives to foster innovation in core PC and server market segments, while helping enable advancements in adjacent computing areas including Smart TV, tablets and smartphones.

- The Intel Capital CEO Summit has over 700 attendees this year from Intel Capital portfolio companies and Intel’s global customers and partners.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Nov. 16, 2010 – Intel Capital, Intel Corporation’s global investment organization, reaffirmed its dedication to foster worldwide innovation with the announcement of 18 new investments. The new deals total approximately $77 million and were announced today at the 11th annual Intel Capital CEO Summit, Intel Capital’s gathering of portfolio company CEOs, corporate technology decision makers from Global 1000 companies and thought leaders from around the world. Kyuss Reunites Without Josh Homme
THREE QUARTERS OF KYUSS REUNITE
![]() Kyuss |
Legendary stoner rock band Kyuss is reuniting without original guitarist and Queens of the Stone Age
main man Josh Homme. The lineup includes vocalist John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri,
and drummer Brant Bjork. Guitarist Bruno Fevery will be stepping in to replace Homme, and the
band is calling
themselves Kyuss
Lives.
In an interview with Blabbermouth, Homme discussed the
possibility of a Kyuss reunion, saying “The offers come in all the
time. They’re getting more and more expensive, and more and more elaborate. The money is crazy, but I’ve never
been tempted – I don’t really care about the money, I never have. That’s not what Kyuss was about, so to punctuate
the end of our sentence with that would be blasphemy…Kyuss has such a great history that it would be a total error.
I like that nobody saw
Kyuss, and that it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend forming to me. I’m too proud of it to rub
my dick on it.”

Travie McCoy Arrested After Spray-Painting Berlin Wall
“Billionaire” singer Travis “Travie” McCoy is laying low in Amsterdam this Friday after the Gym Class Heroes frontman was arrested in Germany this week for spray-painting the historic Berlin Wall. The star was nicked by cops on Thursday after he foolishly defaced the structure and posted photographic evidence of his grafitti blueprint on Twitter! “The [...]
Oct. 15, 1900: Boston Embraces the Sound of Music
1900: Boston’s Symphony Hall, an acoustical marvel in its day and still regarded as one of the world’s great concert halls, opens with an inaugural concert by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Unlike most American concert halls, which tend to favor a wider, fan-shaped configuration, Symphony Hall was built along European lines — deep, narrow and high. [...]
Jam in the Dam 2011 Cancelled; Will Return in 2012
JAM IN THE DAM TO RETURN AS A BI-ANNUAL EVENT FOR 2012
Citing the current economic climate and expense involved in traveling to Europe, the 2011 edition of Jam in the Dam has been postponed until 2012.
Details are below.
“Dear Friends,
After long consideration, we have decided to postpone Jam in the Dam until 2012. We really wanted to do it for the
fans, including our growing base of Europeans for whom this show is the one chance each year they can enjoy what
many of us here take for granted. We had sincere interest from many bands this year, but in the end, we felt like we
did not have a line-up that would be ‘new and improved’ from years past. With the economic climate and the
expense involved in traveling to Europe, we find that Jam In the Dam may be more approachable for the fans and
may become more successful as a bi-annual event.
Amsterdam offers a cultural experience unlike that of any other festival in this genre. Ask anyone who has been,
and they will rave about the atmosphere and intimate nature. We are planning to have 2012 ready to go by February
2011, so that we can offer a choice to traveling jamband fans. This will also give people a year to plan for he time
off and save their money. Also, we’re working on more weekend days so more of our friends from Europe can
become part of our growing scene there.
Most people who are fans of this amazing event know what the founder, Armand Sadlier, has been
through, but rest assured his health is better than ever. This event will NOT go away, and his love of Amsterdam will
be the catalyst for continuing to bring people to one of the most beautiful and welcoming cities on Earth! See you in
2012!

Solomon had just arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for a sold out show at Paradiso with

This is a time of great sorrow for our entire family. We truly appreciate all of the support and well wishes from his
friends and fans. Although our hearts and lives will never be the same, his love, life and music will continue to live
within us forever. As our family grieves during this time of mourning, thank you for respecting our privacy.
