How it useta be: Chevy assembly c. ’59

Classic car specialist publisher Hemmings has learned of a fascinating collection of photos showing ’59 Chevys (the model year in which the fins reached their zenith) being assembled at Tarrytown, New York, which closed in ’96 and is now just another concrete slab in that automaker’s chequered history.

Tarrytown exported some cars, it pops up in production lists as a source of both LHD and RHD units though a lot of Chevrolet exports of the era – particularly to the British Commonwealth – came from Oshawa, east of Toronto. That plant’s still going, too.

Google Hotpot: A Social Network with Some Assembly Required

Ask most people whether Google has a social network, and they will laugh. Of course not, silly! Everyone knows Facebook is the social network, and that Twitter is where you go to spout brief, social messages or personal edicts& and then flit away. But Google does have a social network, provided users cultivate it as such. It’s called Hotpot, Google’s local recommendation engine, which the company rolled out as feature for its Google Places service on Google Maps in November. The service lets users rate, write and publish reviews about restaurants, coffee shops and other establishments from Android and now iPhone smartphones. Rating a restaurant from a smartphone while you’re there is a fun sort of guerilla-foodie exercise, but it can be more fun if you have friends with whom to share your Hotpot ratings and reviews. So to enrich the experience, go to Google’s Hotpot Website to invite friends, and even add some ratings of Google Places you’ve already visited. Kosovo Serbs call to boycott of elections

Delegates of the Assembly of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities called on Kosovo Serbs on Tuesday not to take part in December 12 elections. The elections are organized by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Priština.

SPC appoints administrator of eparchy

The SPC Holy Assembly of Bishops decided Thursday to appoint Bishop of Lipljan Teodosije as the new administrator of the Raška-Prizren Eparchy.

Bearing in mind that the assembly is still underway, this was the first public announcement and the press did not have an opportunity to find out what will happen to retired Bishop Artemije who threatened to establish his own church.

SPC assembly starts in Belgrade

The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers today marked the first anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle’s passing. SPC bishops from the country and abroad and several hundred people gathered at the Rakovica monastery to take part in the ceremonies.

ABNA-SE General Assembly closes

The two-day session of the General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) hosted by Tanjug in ended in Belgrade. The Saturday meeting between the directors and editors-in-chief of the Balkan news agencies and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković marked the end of the gathering.

Democrats lose majority in K. Mitrovica

The Democratic Party (DS) and the coalition gathered around them no longer have a majority in the city assembly of Kosovska Mitrovica. After the early municipal elections in this Kosovo town in May, DS and their partners had 16 councilors, while the Serb Progressives (SNS) and DSS parties won 14 assembly seats.

Priština government faces no confidence vote

The Kosovo assembly in Priština is expected to vote against Hashim Thaci’s government next week, probably on Wednesday or Thursday.

Such decision would be enough to call early elections in Kosovo and there are speculations that they could be held on December 12 or 19.

Elections in Kosovo scheduled for Feb. 13

The first early elections for the assembly in PriÅ¡tina since Kosovo’s Albanians unilaterally declared independence will be held on February 13, 2011. This is according to acting Kosovo President Jakup Krasnici, who spoke on Friday.

International Civilian Representative (ICR) Pieter Feith has stated that the Kosovo assembly will be dissolved after the fall session. This will be followed by early elections.

President addresses UN General Assembly

Serbia is ready for a dialogue with PriÅ¡tina that would help reach an acceptable solution for Kosovo, Serbian President Boris Tadić said at the United Nations. Before the UN General Assembly, President Tadić said it was important that the UN members that had not recognized Kosovo’s independence did not change their stand during the dialogue.

Serbian President Boris Tadić will lead a Serbian delegation at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York from September 20-25. During the General Assembly session, Tadić will have several bilateral meetings with presidents, premiers and foreign ministers of the UN member states, the President’s Press Service announced.

The UN General Assembly will meet on September 9 in New York, a Belgrade daily writes.
Danas newspaper says that the Serbian draft resolution on Kosovo will be discussed, and that voting should also take place on the same day.

“Refinery no sooner than 2012″

Even if the municipal assembly in Smederevo were to allow construction of a new oil refinery, this could not happen before 2012.
This is according to Serbian Minister for Energy and Mining Petar Å kundrić, who made the comments after Sunday’s failed referendum in the town on the Danube River, downstream from Belgrade.

Petar Miletić says that it is hard for him to believe that he was shot because he belongs to a “different political option”.
Miletić is an official of a party called the Independent Liberals, which cooperates with the Kosovo Albanian government and is not embraced by the majority Serb population in Kosovo.

The permanent Serbian delegation at the OSCE parliamentary assembly will be participating in the 19th annual meeting of the assembly in Oslo, Norway. The main topic of the meeting, which will last until July 10, will be “The Rule of Law: The Fight Against International Crime and Corruption”.

First Diaspora Assembly held

The first Assembly of the Serbian Diaspora and Serbs from the Region will be held in Belgrade. The assembly will include the adoption of a strategic decision and give directions for the work of state institutions in relation to Serbs living abroad.

Islamic community responds to photo-edit of leader

The assembly of the Islamic Community in Serbia was held in Novi Pazar regarding the recent photo-edit of its leader which appeared in daily Blic. The assembly called for a boycott of the sales and distribution of the newspaper.

Macedonian minority council to be elected

The electoral assembly for the election of the Macedonian National Council will be held today in Pančevo.

The Macedonian electoral assembly session, which was scheduled for June 6, was not held because a quorum could not be reached. Elections were held around the country for the 18 other national minorities on that day as well.
