James Taylor & Carole King Tour

JAMES TAYLOR AND CAROLE KING NORTH AMERICAN TROUBADOUR REUNION DATES SET

King & Taylor by
Kevin Estrada

Iconic recording artists Carole King and James Taylor unveiled North American dates for the Troubadour Reunion tour. This once-in-a-lifetime event marks a rare concert experience bringing two of the most beloved singer-songwriters on tour together – intimate and in the round – for the first time in four decades.

North American dates begin on May 7 in Portland, OR, and extend through June 19 in Boston, MA. The tour will travel to over 20 major venues and cities nationwide including Madison Square Garden in New York and a three-night stand at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Tickets for the North American leg of Troubadour Reunion go on sale January 23 (unless otherwise noted). King and Taylor will also perform together on The Today Show and The Late Show with David Letterman on January 20.

The idea for the tour was conceived after a series of six performances Taylor and King gave at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in 2007 to celebrate the famed venue’s 50th Anniversary. The shows sold out immediately and garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

Joining King and Taylor on tour will be their original band mates; guitarist Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as The Section. Also joining The Section will be Rudy Guess, Robbie Kondor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz, and Andrea Zonn.

JOHN MAYER ANNOUNCES “BATTLE STUDIES” TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUEST MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD

MAYER’S NOV. 17 RELEASE TO BE CELEBRATED WITH LIVE CONCERT BROADCAST ON FUSE IN THE U.S.
AND MILITARY BASES GLOBALLY VIA ARMED FORCES NETWORK

John Mayer

There is no substitute to seeing John Mayer perform live and the release of Battle Studies later this month will kick off a North American tour beginning February 8 in Charleston, SC and feature special guest, Michael Franti & Spearhead (dates below). Tickets for the majority of dates are planned to go on sale to the general public on November 21, with an American Express card member pre-sale window from November 16-20. For those starting their holiday shopping early, a special offer on www.johnmayer.com allows fans who pre-order Battle Studies now through November 10 to access their own exclusive tour pre-sale to purchase up to 12 tickets before they’re available anywhere else.

Kicking off release week, Fuse announced that their “Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live From the Beacon Theatre,” broadcast will now be broadcast overseas to U.S. troops and their families by AFN, The Armed Forces Network, to reach those stationed in 175 countries and on 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea. Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network and Madison Square Garden Entertainment have teamed up with the American Forces Network (AFN) – now Mayer’s performance will air live on Fuse, in HD and SD, on November 17 at 9 p.m. ET in the U.S. and will be simulcast live that night via AFN Radio. Additionally, AFN Television’s “Spectrum” channel will air the concert on December 6, 2009 at 8 p.m. and on New Year’s Eve.

In addition to an intimate performance of his current single, “Who Says” on the Today Show on Thursday, November 19, Mayer has another special event up his sleeve with The Late Show with David Letterman. Mayer will perform as Letterman’s musical guest, and then take over the studio for an extended concert for fans that will be webcast on Letterman’s website. On November 19, Mayer will appear on The Late Show as both a sit-in artist with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra and as the show’s musical guest before performing a post-show fan concert, which will stream live and remain online through the beginning of the Battle Studies Tour. Other television appearances and special announcements are planned for December, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Jay Leno Show and Larry King Live.

Battle Studies is the fourth studio album from the seven-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter/guitar player/producer and incorporates the warmth, melodies and simplicity of 70′s and 80′s California rock and pop. Battle Studies is a confessional, relaxed and liberated album recorded in a private home in California where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six months before wrapping at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. The album was co-produced by John Mayer and Steve Jordan and will be released on November 17, 2009 on Columbia Records.

Chrysler presentations

Is Chrysler really going to fly in partnership with Fiat? It is perhaps coming off a low base where it has been stuck with the wrong products at the wrong time – and a poor image (the latest US sales weren’t great). But Marchionne reckons the cost-cutting – under Cerberus – has at least given it a shot to succeed at a lower breakeven point. Add in the manufacturing and distribution synergies to come that are made possible by working with Fiat and there is at least hope.

I was in Auburn Hills recently and someone remarked that everyone there is now having to get used to new culture again after the changes of the last decade. But I got the impression it’s seen as a very positive experience, the chance to be creative again in a flatter organisation. One thing about this new culture under Marchionne: there’s an openness about the approach. I think the below link will work for you as well as me; some interesting presentations there on product development and steps taken to improve Chrysler processes in quality, in particular.

Chrysler business plan presentations

Detroit

I am in Detroit this week for some meetings and a few interviews. Chrysler’s Auburn Hills HQ is a massive complex that has a slightly sad air – there were lots of empty desks. It’s the same story generally, but that Auburn Hills complex was always a very bold statement. It’s actually very reminiscent of a shopping mall. But the customers are thin on the ground.

Yesterday, I was at Ford WHQ to make a presentation and also to interview Alan Mulally in his office. He really is quite a bundle of energy and was very familiar with both me and just-auto. As you can see below, it was nice of him to let me give Ford’s latest business plan a check over (yes, I am joking).

A full write-up of the interview with Mr Mulally will follow as soon as I have had the chance to do it.
