Kyuss Reunites Without Josh Homme

THREE QUARTERS OF KYUSS REUNITE

Kyuss

Legendary stoner rock band Kyuss is reuniting without original guitarist and Queens of the Stone Age
main man Josh Homme. The lineup includes vocalist John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri,
and drummer Brant Bjork. Guitarist Bruno Fevery will be stepping in to replace Homme, and the
band is calling
themselves Kyuss
Lives
.

In an interview with Blabbermouth, Homme discussed the
possibility of a Kyuss reunion, saying “The offers come in all the
time. They’re getting more and more expensive, and more and more elaborate. The money is crazy, but I’ve never
been tempted – I don’t really care about the money, I never have. That’s not what Kyuss was about, so to punctuate
the end of our sentence with that would be blasphemy…Kyuss has such a great history that it would be a total error.
I like that nobody saw
Kyuss, and that it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend forming to me. I’m too proud of it to rub
my dick on it.”

All announced tour dates are below.

Blazing Razzaq upstages Proteas

DUBAI (AFP) – Abdul Razzaq hit a belligerent unbeaten hundred to help Pakistan pull off an incredible win in the second one-day international against South Africa here on Sunday.
The dashing 30-year-old all-rounder hit a quickfire 109 off just 72 balls studded with ten towering sixes and seven fours to help Pakistan overhaul a daunting 288-run target with just one wicket and one delivery to spare.
RazzaqÂ’s third one-day hundred – crossing the fifty mark for the first time since making 75 not out against England four years ago – helped Pakistan level the five-match series 1-1 at the Abu Dhabi Stadium.
South Africa won the first match by eight wickets here on Friday. The third match will be played in Dubai on Tuesday (tomorrow).
Razzaq, who came to the crease at 5-136, added 81 for the sixth wicket with Fawad Alam (48) to raise hopes of Pakistan win and even after Alam fell, he did not lose heart despite Pakistan needing 87 in the last ten overs.
He hit Charl Langeveldt for three sixes in 47th over before taking a six and a boundary off the sa-me bow-ler in the 49th.
Pakistan needed 14 off the last over as Razzaq cut loose, hitting sixes off the second and third balls from Albie Morkel to raise his third hundred in one-day cricket, which came off just 70 balls. He then cut through the point for boundary to bring PakistanÂ’s win.
Langeveldt, who completed his 100 wickets in the match, provided his team with early breakthroughs, removing opener Asad Shafiq (one) and Younis for 18.
Pakistan struggled to 70-4 before Alam and skipper Shahid Afridi (49) added 66 for the fifth wicket to lift the stuttering innings. Afridi hit two sixes and three boundaries off 40 balls before passing the buck to Razzaq.
Earlier, the 25-year-old Ingram scored exactly 100 for his second century in three weeks after scoring hundred on debut at home against Zimbabwe just two weeks ago.
The left-hander put on 84 for the second wicket with opener Amla (65) and then another 86 for the third wicket with AB de Villiers (29) as Pakistan bowlers found it hard to put brakes on the South African innings. Jean-Paul Duminy chipped in with a swift 43-ball 54.
It was Ingram who built the innings, hitting ten boundaries and a six off paceman Razzaq before he was trapped leg-before by fast bowler Wahab Riaz who replaced Umar Gul in the Pakistan squad for the only change. He faced 119 balls.
South Africa had to leave out captain Graeme Smith and all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who were both unfit.
Amla started the run feast with three boundaries in paceman Shoaib AkhtarÂ’s first over of the match, before fellow opener Robin Peterson fell leg-before to Razzaq in the fourth over. Ingram then took charge and in company of Amla took the score to 108.

Alberta Cross: Tour Dates

Alberta Cross Sells Out Shows Across The U.S., Tour Confirmed With Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Alberta Cross

Alberta Cross just wrapped up their first ever nationwide headlining tour where they performed to sold out crowds in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, San Francisco and more. This spring, Alberta Cross will tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Their latest album, Broken Side of Time arrives on the heels of their EP The Thief & the Heartbreaker, which earned the band U.K. touring slots with Oasis, The Shins and Bat For Lashes.

Founded by guitarist/vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, Alberta Cross took shape when the two began jamming together in London’s east end. Stakee, from London by way of Sweden, and Wolfers, a Brit himself, moved to New York City in 2008 in pursuit of renewed creative energy and new challenges. Broken Side of Time is born of the struggles and setbacks the band faced along the way. The album serves as Alberta Cross’ official introduction to the U.S.

As Stakee explains, “It’s kind of a desperation album, a darker album; it’s definitely angrier. We’ve been in a crazy place during the whole album and you can hear that.”

Led by Stakee and Wolfers, Alberta Cross is rounded out by guitarist Sam Kearney, drummer Austin Beede and keyboardist Alec Higgins. Broken Side of Time was recorded in Austin, TX and produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Dead Confederate, Heartless Bastards). John O’Mahony (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Kasabian) mixed the album at Electric Lady in New York City.

GOGOL BORDELLO SET FOR INTERNATIONAL TOUR

North American dates on the Casa Gogol Tour run from April 18 through May 1 and will include sets by Slavic-punk-band DeVotchKa, East Village punk troubadour Jesse Malin and St. Mark’s Social, electro-anarchists Tres Leches Afterparty Sound Crew and special surprise guest appearances.

Select dates on the European leg of the Casa Gogol Tour will include sets by the VMA-winning Brooklyn punk-dance duo Matt & Kim, Mariachi El Bronx (the musical alter-ego of the hardcore punk band The Bronx) and Tres Leches Afterparty Sound Crew.

Casa Gogol is crossing America, and then the Atlantic, to celebrate the upcoming release of Transcontinental Hustle, the avidly-awaited fifth studio album from Gogol Bordello. Produced by Rick Rubin, Transcontinental Hustle is the first Gogol Bordello studio album since 2007′s SUPER TARANTA! inspired the rarest of accolades, an “A+” from Robert Christgau, the Dean of American Rock Critics, who called them “the world’s most visionary band.”

John Hiatt: The Open Road

JOHN HIATT TO RELEASE THE OPEN ROAD MARCH 2

John Hiatt

Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt‘s brand new album, The Open Road, due out March 2 via New West Records. The legendary songwriter’s 19th studio album is classic Hiatt, picking up the tempo and returning to rock following his previous critically acclaimed Same Old Man.

Backed by his touring band, (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O’Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars), the songs are inspired by life on the road, without looking back. “All the other years, my songs are about coming home,” Hiatt says.

Hiatt will take the new songs on the road beginning with a run of international dates with Lyle Lovett. Upon returning to the states, he will appear on the 3rd annual Cayamo Cruise, on which he’s played since the first voyage. Tour dates in North America will follow in March, with stops in New York City on March 10 followed by Pittsburgh, DC and Annapolis, which is already sold out.

Hiatt has written songs covered by a multitude of artists in a wide variety of genres including Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, Jewel and Bonnie Raitt, who most famously recorded “Thing Called Love.” On The Open Road he showcases both his lyrical and musical talent with his blues driven, rock songs including the title track and “Haulin’.” Hiatt produced The Open Road himself after recording with his band in his garage-turned-studio.

Recent concert setlists have seen a variety of Clapton music featuring some of his biggest solo hits alongside classic Derek and The Dominos and Blind Faith songs. Alice in Chains: N. American Tour

ALICE IN CHAINS ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR, NEW SINGLE “YOUR DECISION” HITS RADIO DECEMBER 7

Alice in Chains

Alice In Chains have announced dates for a North American tour set to kick off at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver on February 2, 2010. Tickets go on sale December 4 and 5. The band is touring in support of its critically acclaimed new album Black Gives Way To Blue (Virgin/EMI), which entered Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart at No. 5, with first-week sales exceeding 126,000 copies.

The band’s electrifying set list will spotlight classic hits and new favorites, including new single “Your Decision,” which hits radio December 7. The band recently shot a video for the song with director Stephen Schuster, who they previously worked with for the video “A Looking In View.”

Los Angeles-based AIC fans can catch the band performing at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show at the Gibson Amphitheatre on December 12. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, November 21 and proceeds will benefit two local charities, Para Los Ninos and the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center. On November 24, the band will also perform three songs acoustically for a special Yahoo! Maximum Performance, which can be seen on Yahoo! Music.

In other news, Alice In Chains recently released a Black Gives Way To Blue iPhone app, which features full songs from the album, music videos, news, photos, social networking and much more. The app separates itself from the pack with an impressive level of interactivity; its custom-built functionality allows fans to interact with each of the album’s 11 tracks via a touch, drag and hold feature that reveals hidden visual gems. A demo of the app (which was designed and developed by Mobile Roadie, Streetwise Concepts & Culture and EMI Music) can be viewed here.

The band (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, guitarist/vocalist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist Mike Inez) is currently touring Europe and recently performed on the U.K. television show Later … With Jools Holland. The international dates followed a sold-out U.S. buzz tour and performances on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and back-to-back nights on Jimmy Kimmel Live. All three shows saw AIC perform chart-topping lead single “Check My Brain,” which hit No. 1 on the Modern, Active and Rock formats, and was hailed by Spin magazine as “one of the catchiest songs of Alice In Chains’ history.”

Woods clinches Buick Open victory

FINAL LEADERBOARD: (US unless stated)
-20 T Woods -17 J Senden (Aus), G Chalmers (Aus), R Thatcher -16 YE Lang (Kor), M Letzig Selected others: -13 J Leonard -11 J Furyk -11 G Owen (Eng)

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods produced an unblemished round to win his third Buick Open title by three shots at Warwick Hills.

Starting the last round one shot clear, Woods birdied the fourth, seventh and 16th holes and parred the rest for a three-under 69 to end on 20 under.

Roland Thatcher notched eight birdies in a 64 to jump into a tie for second with Australians Greg Chalmers (68) and John Senden (70) on 17 under.

Michael Letzig, who began the day one shot behind Woods, fell away with a 73.

The victory was Woods’ 69th on the PGA Tour – only Sam Snead (82) and Jack Nicklaus (73) have won more – and it never looked in doubt after he birdied the fourth and seventh to turn in 34.

There was a brief moment of concern when the 33-year-old dumped his ball in the green-protecting lake on the 13th when he over-cooked an ambitious attempt to cut his ball round a tree.

However, it was a par five and the world number one flipped a wedge to within four feet to save his par.

Letzig, playing with Woods, birdied the 13th, but his challenge had already faded with a double bogey at the par-three eighth and he dropped a shot at the last to finish on 15 under par.

Senden enjoyed a run of three successive birdies midway through his back nine but he will be cursing three dropped shots in the first 11 holes.

Victory for Woods will go some way towards making up for the disappointment of missing the cut – only the second time he has done so at a major – at the Open two weeks ago.</p

Porcupine Tree: Incident

Porcupine Tree Unravel New Album The Incident Due September 22

Porcupine Tree

Inspired by a flashing road sign that reduced a horrible traffic accident to the antiseptic phrase “POLICE-INCIDENT,” British prog act Porcupine Tree‘s front man Steven Wilson composed the 55 minute, 14-track song cycle as a reflection on other “incidents” reported in the media and news.

The different topics include – the evacuation of teenage girls from a religious cult in Texas, a family terrorizing its neighbors, a body found floating in a river by some people on a fishing trip, and more. Each song is written in the first person and tries to humanize the detached media reportage.

Personal incidents that profoundly affected Wilson, have also been included on the new album include a lost childhood friendship, a seance, his first love, and the day that he decided to give up secure employment to follow his dream of making music.

The new album is in typical Porcupine Tree fashion and as presumed the band ranges effortlessly between art-rock and acoustic psychedelica, prog, and metal. Listen to an album preview medley at the band’s MySpace page.

The Incident will also come with a second CD of four songs that developed from band’s writing sessions last year but which are conceptually independent from the set of songs on the first disc. It will also be released as a 5.1 surround mix and as a limited special edition that comes with two books of artwork related to the album encased in a slipcase.
