Cas Haley: Album & Tour

CONNECTION OUT NOW; TOUR STARTS SEPTEMBER 17

Cas Haley

Connection, the Easy Star Records debut album from musician Cas Haley is out now. Besides the
heavy influence of reggae throughout the record—a hallmark of Cas’ style—you can also hear elements of soul,
blues and pop spliced into the DNA of these songs.

Fans of Cas Haley might remember him from touring with his Dallas-based band Woodbelly and from his contribution to
the Phish reggae tribute album
Dub Like an Antelope.

Cas kicks off a fall US tour with CD release parties on September 17 at Threadgills in Austin and September 18 at
the Granada in Dallas. He then heads out on the road with the Easy Star All-Stars.

Cryptography, Iran and America: Worse than useless

An American government attempt to help Iranian dissidents backfires

FOR Iran’s beleaguered opposition, the internet is a potent weapon and a big hope. During the Green movement’s protests in 2009, activists used Twitter and Facebook, often from mobile phones, to upload videos of police brutality and spread messages of support and news of new demonstrations. The authorities responded not only by cracking heads, but cracking computers: trying to trace users, block services and close websites.

Outsiders found the struggle inspirational. Austin Heap, a 26-year-old hacker born in Ohio, decided to develop anticensorship software to foil the authorities’ efforts. He named the product Haystack, and began earlier this year to distribute it to Iranian opposition leaders. The publicity was excellent: he was named “Innovator of the Year” by the Guardian, a British newspaper, and gained a plaudit from Hillary Clinton, America’s secretary of state. The Treasury, State Department and Commerce Department hastened to grant Mr Heap a licence to export the software to Iran—not normally a favoured destination for American sales efforts, especially cryptographical ones. …

Object-Oriented Storage: 14 Things You May Not Know

Reducing storage costs is becoming a high agenda item for IT organizations, yet data and efficient access to it is an organization’s most valuable asset. Struggling with the performance, scalability and management complexity required to maintain conventional file-based storage systems is a losing battle if data needs to be stored more than 90 days. One way to approach this is to use an object-oriented storage system, which simplifies the process. Object-oriented storage differs from unstructured file storage in that the objects filed are not housed in volumes or attached to a directory. Objects are simply assigned an ID number or name with detailed metadata and can be retrieved at any time. The source for this slide show is Caringo, an Austin, Texas-based provider of content storage software enabling clustered storage for active and archived content. – …

Test Automation Framework Posted By : Austin Craig

Extensive software testing before the actual release is essential for any company to maintain its position among clients and partners. The software has to perform equally well in every platform and scenario and has to be a strategic part of the entire SDLC. Frequent number of revisions makes testing more sophisticated over time, and becomes a larger and larger proposition as time goes by.
