Singapore Airlines says no plan to ground A380s; Awaits advice

Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) said Thursday it has no plans as of now to ground its fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft after a Qantas Airways (QAN.AU) airplane made an emergency landing at Singapore’s Changi Airport after apparent trouble in one of its engines.

“There are no plans as of now to ground our A380 aircraft, and operations are continuing as normal. It is premature at this point to speculate and we will await advice from the aircraft and engine manufacturers as the investigation (on the Qantas incident) progresses,” Singapore Airlines’ Vice-President for Public Affairs Nicholas Ionides said in an emailed statement.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is battling for her political future a day before a vote of no confidence in her government. Tymoshenko lost last month’s presidential election and dropped a legal challenge of the result. The winner of that political dual, Viktor Yanukovich, is seeking to consolidate power by ousting his bitter rival.

Genting Singapore to open resort in phases as it awaits licence

Genting Singapore Plc., the unit of Asia’s largest publicly traded gambling operator, will open its casino-resort in phases, starting with the hotels, as it waits for its licence.
There is “no fixed date” for when the company could get its casino licence, Lim Kok Thay, chief executive officer of parent Genting Bhd., said in Singapore today. The shopping malls will probably open after the hotels, followed by the theme park and then the casino, he said.

Singapore’s first casino ‘ready’ to open, awaits gaming license

Genting Singapore Plc is ready to start operating Singapore’s first legal casino as soon as the city state’s government issues its gaming license, the company said today.
 
Genting Singapore’s stock added as much as 4% this morning on speculation gambling may begin at the company’s Resorts World Sentosa complex as soon as February’s Chinese New Year holiday.
 
“We are ready,” Robin Goh, a spokesman for Resorts World, said. “We can open the casino as soon as we have the license.”

Google releases Android 2.0, the long-awaited OS build code-named Éclair that is expected to appear first on the upcoming Motorola Droid smartphone from Verizon Wireless.
