Marina Bay Sands and SATS launch first city check-in and baggage acceptance service

Marina Bay Sands and SATS have jointly introduced a new city check-in and baggage acceptance service – the first of its kind in Singapore – for hotel guests and visitors heading to Changi Airport.

With the launch of the Baggage Express service, Marina Bay Sands’ guests and customers departing on Singapore Airlines (SIA) and SilkAir flights can enjoy the convenience of checking-in at least three hours before their flights depart. They can receive their boarding passes and baggage claim tags at Marina Bay Sands. Checked-in guests can also proceed directly to clear immigration at Singapore Changi Airport and be at the boarding gate before it closes.

Pteris Global wins $53m contract to build the baggage handling system for Mumbai Int’l

Pteris Global has won a $53 million contract by Mumbai International Airport Limited to design and build the baggage handling system for Mumbai International Airport Terminal 2.

Also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, it is India’s busiest airport catering to 25 million passengers and 530,000 tonnes of cargo during 2008-09. It was voted the best airport in India (2008) by the Airport International Council, a body of operators which collectively manage over 1,600 airports worldwide.

Pteris Global awarded baggage handling system project in Chennai

Pteris Global says it has been awarded a baggage handling system project for Chennai International Airport, India. The project is scheduled to complete in June 2011.

The company also says it has received the Letter of Award for the Changsha Huanghua International Airport baggage handling system project announced on March 9.

The aggregate contract value for these two projects is $28 million.

Pteris Global wins tender to supply, design baggage handling system for Changsha Huanghua …

Pteris Global, the provider of airport logistics systems, has been named as the successful bidder by Hunan Airport Group to design, supply and install a complete Baggage Handling System for Changsha Huanghua International Airport, China. The project is scheduled to start in April 2010 and is expected to be completed in May 2011. The company says it is currently negotiating the terms of the contract.

Baggage fees and complaints at America’s airlines

AIR travellers in America face the twin burdens of additional charges to check in hold luggage and the chances that their baggage might go astray. Data released on Monday September 21st show America’s airlines are raking in record revenues from baggage fees, which amounted to almost $670m in the quarter ending in June. But one airline stands above all the others for collecting the most from its customers to transport luggage and in complaints that those bags have been mishandled. This year Delta Air Lines has taken around $7.60 a passenger and received over five complaints from every 1,000 passengers.

Pteris Global wins $17m contract to build baggage handling system for Queen Alia Int’l Airport in Jordan

Pteris Global, one of the world’s leading providers of airport logistics systems, has been awarded a contract of $17 million to design and build the baggage handling system for Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan.

Scheduled to be handed over at end of year 2011, the baggage handling system can handle 9 million passengers yearly and will be installed in the arrival and departure systems.

Plane crash narrowly avoided in Split

Hajduk Split’s footballers had a narrow escape today, when the baggage hold of the plane they were traveling to Zagreb in swung open during take-off. The incident happened around 100 m off the ground, causing the plane, owned by Croatian Airlines, to suffer a sudden loss of altitude.
