STS9: New Album Out June 29 Acoustic Shows, Red Rocks

ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE SEES OFFICIAL RELEASE
SUMMER GIGS WITH DISCO BISCUITS, JOHN HUGHES, THIEVERY CORP AND MORE

STS9 by Dave Vann

In December of 2009, STS9 sat down in Denver, Colorado in one of America’s most pristine modern opera houses to create “Axe The Cables… An Evening of STS9.” What this night encompasses is one of the most flawless evenings of STS9 music in the band’s decade plus history. Axe the Cables will be available June 29 exclusively through 1320 Records and iTunes. Plans are also in the works to release correlating HD video of much of the show via iClips.net.

In addition to keeping busy throughout the past year by releasing albums, tapping into their acoustic roots, and zigzagging across the country for live shows, with the overwhelming help and support of their fan-base, STS9 recently achieved their goal of raising $150,000, which will build a home for the Make it Right Foundation in New Orleans. Through $1 per ticket fees, the release of Peaceblaster: The Make it Right Remixes, and VIP sound check events in numerous cities throughout the past year, STS9 will soon break ground on a sustainable home in the Lower 9th Ward, in an effort to help rebuild the great city of New Orleans.

STS9 is on tour in the coming months, performing select intimate acoustic Axe The Cables shows in New York, Chicago, and Atlanta, as well as plenty of the electronic events the band is known and loved for, culminating with their annual, two-night gathering at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Marco Benevento: Video/Live Dates

SMALL TASTE OF NEW ALBUM, BUSY SPRING & SUMMER

Marco Benevento‘s new album, Between The Needles & Nightfall, hits stores next Tuesday, May 11, via his label Royal Potato Family/MRI. For a window into the recording process, check out footage from the album sessions at Trout Studios in Brooklyn, capturing the final of three days in the studio, where three additional songs were conceived in the last handful of hours.

“This is a record of tunes that essentially wrote themselves – whether at a soundcheck, or improvised in the studio, or behind the piano in the morning,” says Benevento. “Many of the most enjoyable listening moments are captured feelings of that immediate time, that nowness. The songs really seemed to write themselves amidst contemplation or frustration or inebriation or whatever that moment was rendering. Reed [Mathis], Andrew [Barr] and I improvised bridges on the spot, made songs from scratch and we pieced together song ideas that we’d messed around with on tour. We did all that in three days with the best real music capturist I know, Bryce Goggin.”

Animal Collective: ODDSAC Screenings

MEMBERS OF BAND AND DIRECTOR TO DO Q&A AT ALL SCREENINGS

ODDSAC is a feature film collaboration between the band Animal Collective and filmmaker Danny Perez. The film was co-conceived by and stars Animal Collective. ODDSAC is a dense, surreal layering of audio and visual elements that eschews conventional narrative to create a visceral, immersive experience. The DVD is set for a June 29 release but there will be select screenings in April (see dates below).

ODDSAC features an original score with new songs from the band and complex digital manipulation by Perez, a debut filmmaker and visual artist known for his concert projections with musicians such as Black Dice and Panda Bear. ODDSAC represents a new synthesis of music and film, “a visual album” whose songs will not be released in any other form. ODDSAC is the result of over four years of intense collaboration between Perez and the band. “It was meant to be an open-ended operation of audio-video synthesis, the passing back and forth of visuals and sound so that each would inform the other and create an organic structure,” said Perez.

Neon Indian: Summer Tour BRAHMS Remix

NEON INDIAN ANNOUNCES SUMMER TOUR / GETS REMIXED BY BRAHMS

Neon Indian

Neon Indian is Alan
Palomo
, the 21-year-old synth-wizard who first created waves as VEGA. After writing a batch of off-the-cuff recordings that weren’t quite right as VEGA songs, Palomo released them as Neon Indian and what started
as a careless outlet for ideas too offbeat to fit the VEGA mold has since gone on to define a genre. His critically
acclaimed debut album Psychic Chasms, which was released in October 2009, has been featured in
SPIN, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal and FADER among others. In February 2010 he
made his late night TV debut with a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. “Sleep Paralysist,” the
recent single for Green Label Sound was written by Neon Indian lead-man Alan Palomo; the track was
recorded and produced in collaboration with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear in Brooklyn at Taylor’s
elusive musical dungeon, Terrible Studios. Here, Neon Indian is remixed by new outfit BRAHMS, which features Eric
Lodwick
, Drew Robinson, and Cale Parks.

American Aquarium & Sons of Bill Spring Tour

AMERICAN AQUARIUM AND SONS OF BILL “LIFE IN SHAMBLES” SPRING TOUR
2010

American Aquarium

As complicated as life in 2010 may have become, it’s some comfort to know there are still simple guys out there
playing simple music. Simple guys that can go out any night of the week and put together a rock and roll show we
can all believe in. It was as simple as James Wilson (Sons of Bill) making contact with
BJ Barham (American
Aquarium
) at the end of 2009 to propose a tour for their bands that would help further bond a growing
community of music fans around their roots/Americana/alt-country songwriting and performances. The hope is
that this will not just be another lineup at the bar, but rather a chance to celebrate a new school of bands that are
tending the vibrant traditions of rock and country music and the sense of community they can foster, especially in
hard times. As a tongue-in-cheek testament to the times, the boys in the bands thought it appropriate to call this
tour “Life in Shambles.”

The tour kicks off in Raleigh, NC on May 1 to celebrate the release of American Aquarium’s new record,
Small Town Hymns (Last Chance Records). The entourage will then continue along a three week run that covers the East Coast with each band taking the closing slot on different nights. There will certainly
be cold beers consumed, collaborations and conspiracies, and some kick ass rock and roll played at high volumes.

LYDON AND THE LADS VISIT U.S. TO CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY

PiL

Since returning in December 2009 for seven monumental concerts in the United Kingdom – their first shows in 17 years – Public Image Ltd. (PiL) now continue into 2010 with a headlining North American tour starting Saturday, April 17 in San Francisco.

After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. With their experimental sound fusing rock, dance, folk, ballet, pop and dub, PiL are regarded as producing some of the most diverse music of the ’70s and ’80s.

The North American tour will be preceded by a special performance at the Coachella on Friday, April 16 (opening day of the three-day event) in Indio, CA, and a recently announced intimate performance on Tuesday, April 13 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Tickets for the Club Nokia show go on sale Saturday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. These dates are the band’s first concerts in the United States in 18 years.

Cited as one of the most innovative and influential bands in music history, PiL return to a country where they enjoyed a special relationship throughout their career for what are set to be stunning shows. The North American dates will be followed by a series of high-profile summer European Festival appearances. John Lydon (vocals), Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) and Scott Firth (bass) earned critical and public acclaim for their concerts in December 2009, with many British media outlets championing them as the shows of the year.

“I sound like a bag of kittens thrown down the staircase,” says Lydon with characteristic “charm.”

2010 sees the 30th anniversary of the band’s first U.S. tour and also their U.S TV debut on American Bandstand, where Lydon invited the audience onstage to dance with the band! Host Dick Clark famously introduced their appearance as “a memorable moment in rock n roll, something special and interesting.” With a wide and varied back catalogue spanning three decades, Public Image Ltd will be showcasing the unique sounds of tracks such as “Public Image,” “This Is Not A Love Song,” “Rise,” and “Disappointed,” with many further surprises in store.

Check out JamBase’s recent video salute to John Lydon.

Motion Potion: Electric Nostalgia Tour and Silent Soundclash Series

Motion Potion challenges America’s DJs to a “Silent Soundclash”
Wireless headphones from Silent Events propel a 2-channel Silent Disco battle in U.S. clubs

Motion Potion

For more than a decade, Motion Potion has been pushing “Electric Nostalgia,” a style that unites the past 40 years of dance music with its present and future. This spring he’ll be recruiting a battalion of DJs to help push the concept at “Silent Soundclashes” across America. With the help of hundreds of Silent Events wireless headphones, MoPo will be joined by DJs in 20 different markets for dance-floor excursions that put the choice in the hands of the listener. The Soundclash concept goes back to the earliest days of DJing in Jamaica and New York, where DJs would face off at free outdoor events in “winner takes the soundsystem” battles. “The “Silent Soundclash Series” updates this concept and allows the listener to choose with the flip of a channel switch.

“The Silent Soundclash Series” is a step towards the potential fulfillment of the long-term promise of the “Silent Disco” concept. What started as a way for festivals like Bonnaroo and Glastonberry to run late-night parties is headed towards a day when an urban house party could rock on without waking the neighbors. Using Silent Events’ patented headphones not only allows the best in wireless sound (on their own unique FCC-approved band) but also the ability to switch channels, allowing two DJs to rock a party head-to-head. The partygoer will no longer have to “choose with his feet” by leaving the dance floor but rather just change the station.

“Rocking the “Silent Disco” at Bonnaroo the past four years has been an incredible musical and social experience.” said MoPo “With this tour we’re bringing that amazing vibe right into people’s hometowns and allowing their favorite local DJs to participate in the experiment and join the fun.”

The “Silent Soundclash Series” will take place in the middle of Motion Potion’s Spring 2010 “Electric Nostalgia” Tour, coinciding with the release of a series of three “Electric Nostalgia EP’s” and the launch of the new online community at www.motionpotion.com. The first “Silent Soundclashes” will take place at WMC Miami and will continue on for more than a month across the Eastern United States. MoPo will then head back towards San Francisco to play a series of shows with electronic legends like Tipper, NAPT and Fort Knox 5.
