Eagle Laptop from Rugged Notebooks Takes a Beating
Rugged Notebooks recently introduced the Eagle series of its ruggedized portable computers designed for demanding work environments such as public safety and the military. With an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz processor, 4GB of memory and a 14.1-inch WXGA/WXG LCD display, the notebook’s specs fit mobility workers’ needs. The Eagle can have up to 8GB of physical memory installed. But at 5.5 pounds, the notebook can get heavy quickly. RAID 0/1 dual hard drive for instantaneous backups is also available as an option. The review model had the optional touch-screen display (for a digitized pen, not fingers), as well. As for storage, the Eagle came with a DVD writable drive and a 225GB Hitachi hard disk drive. Solid-state drives of up to 512GB are available. Data security is critical in a mobile environment, and the Eagle has enhanced security features to match. The laptop includes Absolute Software’s Computrace technology in the BIOS for asset tracking and recovery. With Computrace, IT managers can track the laptop in case of theft or loss, and also delete the data remotely. It meets the FBI’s user authentication guidelines with its biometric fingerprint reader and SmartCard reader.
