Purda extradition hearing in Sarajevo

A hearing on Serbia’s request that Tihomir Purda was held on Tuesday in the Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Croat has been charged with committing war crimes in Vukovar in 1991 by the Serbian judiciary, Beta news agency reports.

Montenegrin PM on private visit

Montenegro’s new Prime Minister Igor LukÅ¡ić had talks with the president and prime minister of Serbia Boris Tadić and Mirko Cvetković. This took place during his private visit to Belgrade on Thursday, Beta news agency reported.

Hand grenade sent to Croatian embassy

The Croatian Foreign Ministry said a package was delivered to the country’s embassy in Berlin containing an M75 hand grenade “with fuse and safety lever”. The package arrived on Monday along with a threatening letter, reports Beta news agency.

Serbia coordinator for Danube Strategy

At a meeting of the European Commission and the Danube basin countries in Brussels, Serbia was appointed coordinator for the Danube strategy in several fields. They include transport, knowledge economy, security and fight against organized crime, Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić said on Wednesday, Beta news agency reports.

Voting repeated in Kosovo municipalities

Voting was repeated in five municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija where irregularities were reported during the Dec. 12 elections. Beta news agency reports that according to information posted by the Kosovo Election Commission last night, the turnout in Srbica was 58.68 percent, 61.60 percent in Glogovac, 34.59 percent in Decani, 36.36 percent in Mališevo and 53.31 percent in Lipljan.

New EU presidency and Balkans

Hungary has taken over at the helm of EU’s rotating six-month presidency and outlined its priorities. The union’s enlargement to the Western Balkans countries was included as “an important item”, Beta news agency reports, and adds that this comes despite the fact that Hungary is aware there is resistance to enlargement within the organization.

Dačić, Marnhac on better cooperation

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić and EULEX mission head Xavier de Marnhac met in Belgrade on Monday, Beta news agency reports. They took a stand for improving cooperation with a view to combating crime and raising the level of general security on both sides of the administrative line between Kosovo and Serbia proper.

Brammmertz sends report to UNSC

The chief prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal, Serge Brammertz, sent a regular report to the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
Beta news agency reported that in it, he evaluated Serbia’s cooperation in the search for the remaining war crimes suspects – Ratko Mladić and Goran Hadžić.

Tadić on economic recovery, Kosovo talks

Govt. to sell 51% stake in Telekom

The Serbian government has decided to sell the 51 percent state-held stake in Telekom Srbija in an international tender. Cabinet officials told Beta news agency that the Serbian telecommunications company is worth an estimated EUR 2.43bn, and the government will set the minimal price for the sale of company shares.

Clinton ends Balkan tour in Kosovo

The status of Kosovo was closed with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), says Hillary Clinton. After meeting with Kosovo officials in PriÅ¡tina on Wednesday, Clinton conveyed Washington’s commitment to help the Balkans in achieving sustainable development, Beta news agency reported.

Police find list of riot organizers

Police Director Milorad Veljović told Beta news agency that a list of persons who were to spearhead riots in Belgrade was found.
According to this, the list was found on the person of Mladen Obradović, the arrested leader of the far-right organization Obraz.

Minister criticizes EULEX over antenna

Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović criticized EULEX for not having announced the installation of an antenna pole at a northern checkpoint. “Such actions by EULEX do not at all contribute to stabilizing the situation on the ground, rather they only serve to fuel doubt and distrust among the Serbs,” Bogdanović said, according to Beta news agency.

Germany invests EUR 1,5mn over 10 years

Thousands of Serbs without telephone service

Serbs in their enclaves in central and southern Kosovo have been left without landline and mobile telephone service. Beta news agency reports that eighty thousand Serbs in Kosovo were left without mobile, and a few thousands without fixed telephony.

EU harmonizes position on Serbian resolution

EU member-states have principally adopted “guidelines” forthe harmonization of positions with Serbia ahead of the upcoming debate in the UN General Assembly. Government to reinstate Kosovo bonus

Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović says the government would next week adopt a decree regarding the so-called Kosovo bonus. Beta news agency reports that it would see the continuation of the allowance given to employees in Kosovo whose wages were paid from the Serbian budget.

Central bank: Currency stabilized

The National Bank of Serbia said that the Serbian dinar (RSD) had stabilized over the last week. The central bank said that this came as a result of the gradual reduction of risk in Serbia and the region since the middle of June, Beta news agency reported.
