C&W Worldwide up on report SingTel mulling bid: Update

Shares in Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWP.L) rose to their highest level since a profit warning in July after a weekend report that Singapore Telecom (STEL.SI) was considering a bid for the British operator.

The Independent on Sunday said SingTel was running a rule over corporate telecoms company C&W Worldwide, and had contacted bankers in Asia and Europe to discuss options.

Cable & Wireless heads for two-month high after bid report

Cable & Wireless Worldwide Plc was on course for its highest close in almost two months after a report in the Independent on Sunday newspaper said Singapore Telecommunications is considering a bid for the London- based company.

C&W gained as much as 5.7% to 77.1 pence at 8:10 a.m. in London.

SingTel mulls bid for C&W Worldwide: Independent

Singapore Telecommunications (STEL.SI) is considering a bid for FTSE 100 group Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWP.L), The Independent on Sunday reported.

The newspaper said Southeast Asia’s largest telecom firm had contacted bankers in Asia and Europe to discuss the idea. It cited a corporate adviser as saying SingTel was in the early stages of its plans but a takeover attempt was a possibility.

Chip Eng Seng unit wins Punggol Field EC development with $142m bid

Chip Eng Seng Corporation says wholly-owned subsidiary CES Engineering and Construction has been informed by Punggol Field EC that its $142 million bid for building works has been accepted.

Punggol Field EC is a 40% and 60% joint venture between CEL Development Pte Ltd and Choicehomes Investments respectively.

Olam increases offer for NZ Farming Systems by 27%: Update

Olam International, a Singapore-based commodity producer, raised its takeover offer 27% after NZ Farming Systems Uruguay said the first bid was too low. Shares rose 11%.

Olam increased its bid to 70 New Zealand cents a share from 55 cents, valuing NZ Farming at NZ$171 million ($893 million), according to a filing with the New Zealand stock exchange. The new offer beats a 60 cents-a-share bid plan announced last week by Union Agriculture Corp., a Uruguayan landowner.

Casino hires Deutsche on Carrefour S.Asia bid: Update

French retailer Casino (CASP.PA) has hired Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) to advise on a potential bid for Carrefour’s (CARR.PA) Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand assets, sources told Reuters

Carrefour has put up its Southeast Asian assets for sale at a potential price of US$1 billion ($1.36 billion), according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Parkway shares rise 1% on Khazanah’s improved bid

Shares of Singapore’s Parkway (PARM.SI) opened 1.03% higher on Tuesday after Malaysian state investor Khazanah made an improved offer for the regional healthcare provider.

Around 0102 GMT, Parkway was traded at $3.92, higher than its Friday closing price of $3.88. Parkway shares were suspended from trading on Monday.

President Tadić on EU bid, ICJ decision

Serbian President Boris Tadić has stated that he expects Serbia’s EU integration to be “accelerated” in the fall. Speaking in the northern town of Zrenjanin today, Tadić said that he believed Serbia and the Western Balkans must join the EU “a lot sooner than 2020″, so that the European integration plan would be sustainable and the region’s stability preserved.

ComfortDelGro makes A$39m takeover bid for Perth’s largest taxi operator

ComfortDelGro Corporation has made a A$38.8 million ($46.8 million) takeover bid for Swan Taxis Limited, the largest provider of taxi services in the Perth metropolitan market with 1,667 taxis or a 91% share of the market.

If successful, ComfortDelGro says the move will further extend its presence in Australia where it is already one of the largest private bus operators in New South Wales and Victoria.
