IBM reinvents voluntary work
“IT WAS like going back to graduate-student days. We all had nicknames and were hanging out together,” says Guruduth Banavar, a senior executive at IBM. He recently spent time volunteering in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as part of a six-person team put together by the IBM Corporate Service Corps, working pro bono with the city government to help develop new strategies in areas ranging from public transport and water supply to food safety and innovation.
Launched in 2007 as a “corporate version of the Peace corps”, the programme is now being scaled up to 500 IBMers a year. album, Blue Giant. The band will be sharing the stage with Bobby Bare Jr. beginning in Memphis
on August 24 with additional stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and New York. See full tour dates

The twelve tracks on the album, written by Kevin and Anita, combine the traditional sounds of American music –
country, bluegrass, and folk with driving, straight-ahead rock from the classic country feel of “Lonely Girl,” to the
melodic guitars in “Clean The Clock,” to the mellow, deceptively simple “Gone For Good” which features Sleater-
Kinney’s Corin Tucker.

Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic will celebrate Independence Day Weekend at the Red Rocks & Blue extravaganza on Saturday, July 3 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Also on tap is a heavy dose of reggae classics from The Wailers. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks in addition to the many surprises planned for the show. This will be Umphrey’s and Galactic’s first time headlining Red Rocks.
In addition to the Red Rocks & Blue main course both bands will perform small club shows at the Gothic Theatre, with Galactic, featuring special guest Cyril Neville (The Neville Brothers) on Friday July 2 and Umphrey’s McGee performing on Sunday, July 4.
Pre-sale packages for the Red Rocks/Gothic Theatre shows will begin this Saturday March 20th at NOON, MT. Public on-sale begins Saturday March 27th at 10 AM MT.
