Serbians, Macedonians to cross border with ID cards

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić is visiting Macedonia on January 28 and 29.

“Macedonian and Serbian citizens will soon be able to travel across the border with identity cards only, without passports,” he said Friday.

KPS takes over border control from KFOR

The Kosovo Border Police took over the control of the border with Macedonia from KFOR on Saturday.

Slovenia in protest note to Croatia

Slovenia has sent a protest note to Croatia protesting what it sees as prejudging of the sea border between the two countries.
The Croatian national television reported that, according to Croatia’s rulebook, the border is established along the middle of the Bay of Piran, adding, however, that this will only be so until the completion of the demarcation between the two countries.

Abkhazia to strengthen border with Georgia

Flooding closes border crossings

Crossings of Mali Zvornik (new bridge) and Ljubovija, on the border with RS, Bosnia, have been closed due to the flooding of the Drina River.

The Customs Directorate advised travelers use the Sremska Rača crossing instead, until the water level of the Drina stabilizes.

Protest closes two border crossing

Protesting farmers have closed freight and bus traffic on two border crossings between Serbia and Hungary. Passenger vehicles are however crossing the border at Bezdan-Most and Bački Breg with no delays.

“Special border controls” announced

Serbia, Montenegro rail traffic protocols

Serbian and Montenegrin border services signed on Wednesday in Belgrade three protocols. The protocols are meant to cut by half the time passenger and freight trains spend at border crossings and were signed under the agreement on border control of railway traffic.

Pakistan reopens Afghan border crossing

Pakistan said Sunday it has reopened a border crossing used by NATO to ship supplies into Afghanistan. Pakistan closed the Torkham crossing in the northwest Khyber tribal region on September 30, the same day NATO helicopters fired missiles at a Pakistani military post, killing two soldiers.

Iran “denies reports” of American arrests

Iran has denied a report which said that Iranian border guards had arrested seven American soldiers, according to Iranian state TV quoted by Reuters.
Earlier reports quoting the Fars news agency said the soldiers had been held recently with two Iranians near the border with Pakistan, for allegedly trying to enter Iran illegally.

More smuggling arrests made at border

Border police arrested four persons suspected of trying to smuggle cigarettes across the border with Romania. The suspects had in their possession 39 boxes with a total of 1,900 cartons of cigarettes with Serbian excise stamps on them.

Twenty kilos of heroin seized at border

Border police seized 20 kilograms of heroin on Sunday night at the border crossing in Gradina. This is the largest seizure of drugs in Serbia this year, and the street value of the heroin is estimated at about EUR 500,000, Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said.

Border police seize cigarettes

Border police at the railway border crossing with Montenegro seized a large amount of cigarettes with the help of local Prijepolje police. According to the statement, during a search of the international train traveling from Bar to Belgrade, 1,497 cartons of cigarettes with no excise stamps were found in the ceiling of one of the train compartments.
