To help the software programming students of today become the manycore developers of tomorrow, Intel is introducing the Manycore Testing Lab, a development environment that allows professors and students to remotely test code scalability up to 32 cores. As part of the Intel® Academic Community, which provides parallel programming and visual computing curricula and resources to professors at more than 1,800 universities worldwide, the testing lab is available to members at no cost. Google’s purchase of DocVerse validates the market for applications that bridge the gap between the Google Apps cloud computing suite and Microsoft’s Office on-premises applications. Google will stitch DocVerse’s technology into Google Apps, appealing to customers who want to use Google Apps as their main collaboration suite but work offline in Office with the documents they created, without losing any of the data. CA is buying Oblicore, whose software bridges the gap between SLAs and infrastructure performance, key requirements as businesses begin to adopt cloud computing. Jive Software Oct. 28 released Social Business Suite 4.0, building a bridge to Microsoft Office and prompting Jive CEO Dave Hersh to claim that Jive is essentially turning Microsoft Office into Google Docs. Jive, which like rivals MindTouch, Socialtext, Awareness and IBM believes that the lines between social software and collaboration software have blurred, also lets users view and reply to comments made in the browser directly from the plug-in in Microsoft Office. Zoho Builds Bridge Between Projects Application and Google Apps

Zoho Oct. 19 let Zoho users sign into the Zoho Projects application with their Google Apps account information and upload files from Google Docs to Zoho Projects and sync Projects meetings with Google Calendar. Users will also be able to embed info from Projects directly inside Gmail, iGoogle and the Google Sites wiki application.
